Just who is Carolyn Haggard? See below the fold...While reading the AP story on the breaking Ted Haggard scandal, I was found this part particularly interesting (full story here):
In a written statement, Haggard said: "I am voluntarily stepping aside from leadership so that the overseer process can be allowed to proceed with integrity. I hope to be able to discuss this matter in more detail at a later date. In the interim, I will seek both spiritual advice and guidance."...
"Is this something I can imagine of Ted Haggard? No," he said.
Carolyn Haggard, spokeswoman for the New Life Church, said a four-member church panel will investigate the allegations. She did not identify the board members.
Well, that's interesting. He wants "integrity" in the investigation process, but a woman named Carolyn Haggard is in charge of it?
Haggard, Haggard, why is that name so familiar...? Hmmm...oh! It's Ted Haggard's name!
But who is she? A quick Google search shows she is Ted Haggard's niece! So much for an honest investigation. But still, why didn't the AP make such an obvious clarification? Surely, I'm not the only reader who noticed. Any reader would make the connection and wonder who this woman is.
Now check this out, Fox News actually made the clarification! Fox News for journalistic integrity? Weird. Here is their modified story:
"Is this something I can imagine of Ted Haggard? No," he said.Carolyn Haggard, spokeswoman for the New Life Church and the pastor's niece, said a four-member church panel will investigate the allegations.
MSNBC also added their own information:
Carolyn Haggard, spokeswoman for the New Life Church, said a four-member church panel will investigate the allegations. She did not identify the board members. Carolyn Haggard is Ted Haggard's niece.
Most other sites kept the original, unclear, AP story as is. WHY? Why did AP leave out this info?!
